I’ve attempted my 30 minutes of treadmill work three times now in the last four days. The first time I did it, I jogged 11 out of the 30 minutes. The second time, 13 minutes, and today 15.5 minutes. Nice improvement! And, I noticed again today that it seems to be a bit easier to do. I wasn’t as breathless today as I was on Thursday. And, there were two stints of jogging that lasted three or more minutes each rather than just the one I experienced before.

I was discussing my treadmill results and future aims with my husband today and amidst the bragging had to admit the speed at which I was jogging. When transitioning from the walking portion to the jogging portion, I am only going from a 2.5 walk to a 3.5 jog. He joked that at 3.5, that’s really just a “shuffle”. True, I know. But, it’s like a jog for me! I’m not good at running at all, and these baby steps are what I need to take to get going.

I do have a plan though. I need one if I plan to accompany friends on 5K excursions! After I get to a point where about 22-23 of my 30 minutes are jogging (or should I say shuffling) then I am going to increase the speed, both the walking speed and the jogging speed. I’d like to get them up to 3.0 and 4.0 respectively. It will probably mean that my number of jogging minutes slips a bit, but that’s ok. I can then work on rebuilding back to the same times. After I do, perhaps I’ll even increase the speed one more time.

To those that have done this before, I’m sure this doesn’t sound all that impressive, but I’m impressing myself and I’m liking the sense of accomplishment this little challenge is providing. (Hopefully the next time I step on the scale I will see some progress in that area too! Weight loss is always a good motivator!)

One Response to “treadmill work is getting a bit easier”

You are doing great! When I first started exercising. I rode my exercise or EXORCISE bike 7 minutes, twice a week, and that was the most excrucitating thing I could imagine. I had no idea why I chose “7″….less than ten, more than 5 perhaps. the point is that you are moving…keep it up. Exercise offers true benefit for lasting change. You go Girl
