As I posted earlier, I am going to aim for working out more on the treadmill and walking the dog in March and not relying solely on the Wii to keep me exercising! I took my statement seriously, so much so that as soon as I was done posting, I went downstairs and hopped on.

I have a dear friend of the family that is in week 7 of the C25K (Couch to 5K) program and she has been doing very well. She is inspiring me to try something similar. Although I am not following the program as it was designed, I would like to try and increase the duration of the running portion of my treadmill workouts.

Tonight’s treadmill exercise was a good start. Probably because of the running activities in Wii EA Active, but if I’m remembering correctly from the last time I tried running on the treadmill, I was able to run for more of the time tonight than I could in the past. For those that run more regularly and have built up a tolerable “endurance” this is not going to be all that impressive, but of the 30 minutes on the treadmill, I ran for a total of 11 of those minutes. My longest stint at running within those 30 minutes was about 3.5 minutes straight. After walking the first five minutes, I just ran for as long as I could, then walked again until I recaptured a sufficient breath and then started running again, repeating the steps until the 30 minutes was up. Each time I ran it was for at least two minutes, but obviously with only getting 11 minutes of running total, there was substantial walking in between the portions where I ran.

I’m far from a 5K, but I would like to meet or exceed the number of running minutes each time I do this until I can run the whole time!
