I have been absent for quite a while. Sorry about leaving you hanging like that. I hadn’t been feeling all that well, but am happy to report that I am back with a vengeance!

My goal for February was to lose six pounds. Verily, I did it! Unfortunately, before the end of the month was up, four of those six had crept back on. Being “out of it” for a bit over week really put a thorn in my side and made me a bit depressed. I had just finished bragging about getting close to having those college jeans fit comfortably! Ugh.

Well, after reading a couple posts by fellow bloggers, I’m of the mindset that “aims” are better than “goals” because the failure to reach a goal by default sets up potential negativity. As long as I always aim to achieve, I won’t beat myself up over falling short. This is now a life-long commitment I’ve made to myself, not a desire to achieve a short-term goal.

February was kind of weird for me. I experienced the week of greatest weight loss followed by a week of no exercise and resulting weight gain. When the entirety of the four-week month was over, I was only two pounds the smaller. However — it is two pounds in the right direction! I feel like last month was good practice for a future “maintenance” mode — where my goal will be no longer losing weight but maintaining a healthy weight.

Playing devil’s advocate, I have failed to meet monthly goals for two straight months! While each of those two months have involved ultimate net weight loss and not gain, I can’t help but think that if I don’t try harder, I am not going to make my longterm goal (100 pounds by 1/1/11).

Therefore:

For March I will AIM to:

  • Add cardio to my Wii workouts (I have used Wii Active almost exclusively for the last two months and while it has been fun, I have been lazy for not doing more on the treadmill, etc.)
  • Resume walking the dog now that neither the dog nor I risk freezing our extremities off in the bitter Wisconsin winters. (It’s supposed to hit 40 degrees several days this week!) It will be good for me, and good for the dog!

If I am successful and aim high enough, I will be pleased with the end results. I’d like to lose seven pounds in March, and keep it off, not to be regained before the month is over as in what happened in February! On March 1st, I weighed 215, so 208 will hopefully be on the scale on April 1st, no foolin’! That is a significant number because it will mean 60% of the goal will have been met and it will be another opportunity to have my picture taken. (My progress photos page is updated with each ten pounds lost, and that occurs when my weight ends in an 8, as I started at 268.)
