I repeated my treadmill workout tonight. This time, I made 13 of the 30 minutes be running minutes! I am happy with the increase, but even more so, I am thinking that the running motions were a little smoother and less cumbersome. I actually felt like a runner! I kind of “looked” like one too. How do I know, you ask? Well, my treadmill is in the basement, parked in front of our furnace, so when I’m on it, I actually see my reflection in the ductwork. :)

A friend posted on his Facebook page that he wanted to run a 5K in a town within a short drive from me and was soliciting friends to join him. I would love to, but know that I am not ready yet. I’d definitely slow him down to the point where I’d be a burden. But, his post got my wheels spinning. I think I would like to make that a goal for some point in the not-so-distant future. There are so many charitable “runs” that I would like to take part in — not only for the exercise and comraderie but also for the stewardship to organizations that sponsor and host such events.

    Hi Jennifer!
I, too, have had to “bring my workouts up a notch.” My body was getting used to my new routine and I wasn’t losing weight anymore. It’s not fun or easy but we both can do it for our kids!
I mainly did the 5K run thing because a bunch of us from our fire department have begun a fitness program and thought it would be a good thing to do as a group. Why don’t we make it a goal to do a Southeastern WI charity run together this fall. It would be good for us, we’d get together (again), and I agree it’s great to support different charities. We’ve got plenty of time to prepare and there will be tons of events to pick from. See how creative we can be encouraging each other!

It stinks when our bodies “get used to” the way we use it. :)

Honestly, it is a miracle how adaptive our bodies are. It is really an amazing thing — how our bodies work. For those that are trying to lose weight, understanding metabolism is key. I wish I understood more, but I do know what you mean when you say you now have to kick it up a notch. I’ve hit plateaus before too, and have tried to do more. I wonder if there can get to be a time when we just can’t physically do any more, that we exercise as much as we can for as hard and as long as we can and then reach another plateau. Ouch! I don’t want to think about it. Fortunately, I’m far from that point. :)

A charity run sounds like a good goal to have!
