After browsing the blogs I follow this morning I felt the urge to take a spin off of a posting I saw about wanting to fit into chic clothing that used to be worn. weightlossninja showed off a shirt, slacks and leather jacket that he used to wear and that he is determined to wear again. He can do it!

Anyway, I began to reflect on the type of wardrobe I have always had and the clothing choices I continue to make. My choices are mostly due to my weight, but I guess in part due to finances as well. Much of my current wardrobe is comprised of knit pants and baggy shirts. The pants can actually be worn for a large weight fluctuation, still being functional where I am plus or minus about 30 pounds. Since there are no zippers, no snaps, no buttons, the elastic waist simply expands or constricts to accommodate whatever size I happen to be at the time. Granted, the more belly I happen to have, the shorter the pant legs seem to be, but they have “worked” for me.

I also have a few pair of jeans that are not as flexible when it comes to fluctuating weight. Denim obviously is not as forgiving when you put weight on, but it also isn’t as comfortable if you have lost weight. I have a pair of Just My Size black jeans that used to be difficult to zip when I started this current weight loss journey. Now they are hard to keep up. In losing just 26 pounds they are already hard to wear except for when I am lounging around at home. Like weightlossninja, I have a pair of jeans that I wore in college that I look forward to wearing. They are only two sizes smaller than my current size, so hopefully my wait is not too far off. They’re not really even a nice pair of jeans, but knowing that I’m fitting in them will be very rewarding.

When I reach my goal weight of 168, I am going to buy lots of new clothes, and they are going to be fashionable. They are not going to be tight across the gut and baggy as hell in the legs. They will show off toned arms and a defined collarbone and neckline. They are not going to be purchased from a second hand shop or from the plus-size department. And, those that know me well probably won’t believe I am saying this, but I am even planning on buying a coordinating handbag, shoes and jewelry to go with it!

One Response to “wearing clothes that fit”

  1. Kelly says:

Sadly, I don’t have any old “skinny” clothes. I got rid of them all. I was convinced that I’d never wear them again. Or when I was on one of my many moves, I ditched them. So…maybe I should buy myself a pair of size 16 (my ultimate goal…may not seem small but that’s where I see myself) and keep them close to keep the end in mind.
